I was watching a few self-made hunting videos made with a commercially available head mount and thought ‘why not just make one?’ I don’t have a video camera but do have a Samsung S5 that takes pretty good video so decided to make a mount for that. I always wear a hunting cap and didn’t want to mess with a separate head strap so figured I might as well and try mounting the smartphone right on the bill of the cap. Sorry, you guys that insist on wearing caps backwards are out of luck… I purchased a ball mount and a smartphone tripod adapter from Amazon because for $16 I couldn’t mess around and make something that was as good. I simply drilled a 1/4-inch hole in the cap and put a short 1/4-inch x 20 threads bolt into the tripod ball head.
The part numbers are:
1/4″ Screw Tripod Mini Ball Head for DSLR Camera Camcorder Light Bracket Swivel (Type 1)
Photos attached. Yes, I know the smartphone is in backwards. I just didn’t want to remove the leather case to take the photo.
Now, to just get a turkey within range!
